AGP’s ethanol plant in Hastings, NE, is a dry-mill process producing 55 million gallons of ethanol annually. It produces and sells wet and dry distillers grains plus crude corn oil. Ethanol is marketed to major petroleum companies who blend it with gasoline to produce motor vehicle fuel that is cleaner burning than conventional gasoline. The plant has 45 highly qualified employees. AGP captures methane gas from its anaerobic wastewater digester and uses it in a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO). The biogas replaces some of the natural gas now used to fuel the RTO. The digester (a bulk volume fermenter made by ADI Systems, Inc) processes wastewater from the corn and soy processing plants. The digester is a low-rate treatment system that can process wastewater with high suspended solids concentrations and variable flows. Optimization of the digester operations increased the volume of biogas production to the point that it became economical to capture it and use it in the RTO process. The RTO controls emissions in exhaust from the ethanol plant’s DDGS dryers. AGP is a farmer-owned cooperative with business segments involved in procuring, processing, marketing, and transporting grains and grain products. It handles corn, although the bulk of the company's work is with soybeans, which includes two biodiesel facilities.
