Smart Grid

In addition to alternative energies, a new, more efficient infrastructure to deliver electricity to consumers is being developed in the U.S. This “Smart Grid” is being designed to use digital technology to save energy, increase reliability and reduce costs.

The Obama administration is backing this new technology and named George W. Arnold the first National Coordinator for Smart Grid Interoperability in April 2009. Many other governments are promoting this type of modernized electricity network as well, as a way of addressing both energy independence and climate changes issues.
