What are the current renewable energy stats for Algeria?

Algeria is on its way to meeting their solar energy goals, with a hybrid solar-natural gas power plant producing 34 megawatts of energy from the sun scheduled to open in 2010.[1] NEAL is planning two more 400-megawatt, renewable energy power plants.[2] The number of solar energy plants in Algeria is expected to grow, as European countries are hoping to purchase renewable solar energy generated in the deserts of Algeria.

The country established a government organization, New Energy Algeria (NEAL), in 2002 to further the cause of alternative energy in Algeria.[3] In 2007, Algeria planned to build 1,350 MW of new solar energy capacity by 2015.[4]
