What are the current renewable energy stats for Kenya?

Kenya is currently the only country utilizing the geothermal power contained within the Great Rift Valley. While some estimates predict Kenya has at least 2,000 megawatts of potential energy underneath the surface, only about 129 megwatts were utilized as of 2004.[1] In 2008, geothermal plants produced 15% of the country’s energy, about 165 megawatts.[2]

Kenya has set a goal of producing 1,200 megawatts of geothermal energy by 2015, eliminating the need for emergency power stations due to drought affecting hydropower stations.[3]
