Are there significant coal projects in development and where are they?

There are 160-250 proposed new coal-fired power plants in the U.S.; 32 proposed to be IGCC[1]. The two currently operating IGCC plants in the U.S. are the Polk plant in Tampa, Florida and Wabash River in Indiana.

The two Charts below give the annual capacity and proposed new coal-fired power plants that are under consideration. Proposals to build new power plants are often speculative, and many of the proposed plants will not likely be built.
