PEO stands for Program Executive Office and Program Executive Officer. A PEO has primary responsibility for directing several acquisition I progams and for assigned acquisition II, III, and IV programs. An ACAT 1 program is a program which the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology (USD(A&T)) anticipates will eventually require in excess of $355 million for research, development, test and evaluation or in excess of $2,135 billion for procurement.
