The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) is offered annually to firms that have an active Phase 2 SBIR award. Companies are assigned to a business acceleration manager (BAM) and provided with access to an e-learning site, as well as numerous materials and webinars. CAP interaction begins with a Commercialization Readiness Assessment conducted by the BAM to assess areas of strength and weakness relative to commercialization of the DHS-funded technology. Recommendations are then made regarding services from a Menu of Options that may help the firm strengthen its commercialization strategy. The program concludes with the development of a Phase III Commercialization Plan that charts the way forward for the small business.
