Kansas is home to one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the world, preserved in the Flint Hills. It is also known as the “Breadbasket of America” with its vast, fertile plains making it one of the top producers of wheat, corn, and sorghum in the U.S. Kansas also ranks fourth in total biomass production with 12 operating biofuel facilities. The Kansas Department of Commerce is the lead economic development agency for the state and is committed to “helping individuals, businesses and communities achieve prosperity in Kansas”. Did you know that in 2025 Panasonic invested $4B in its De Soto, KS facility making it the largest electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in the United States; Did you know that Kansas is the home of two general aviation aircraft manufacturers – Bombardier Learjet and Textron Aviation’s Beechcraft and Cessna. Small Business R&D Acceleration Grant

Each quarter, 50/50 match funding becomes available for small, advanced technology firms, wishing to leverage access to higher education facilities, equipment and expertise. The total available is $25,000 for the small business. To be eligible the applicant must be a registered business in Kansas and have 50 or fewer full-time employees.
