Montana

State Resources

Montana is the fourth largest state in the U.S., but also one of the sparsest in terms of population. The natural beauty of the state gives rise to its three primary sectors which include mining, agriculture and tourism.  Among its primary goals, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development targets business retention and recruitment, workforce development, technology development, infrastructure improvement, and permitting and regulatory processes. From a high tech perspective, some of the challenges that startups face include limited financial resources, lack of venture capital investment and geographic isolation. To network with other advanced tech companies, the Montana High Tech Business Alliance may be beneficial.

SBIR/STTR Matching Funds

The state of Montana provides grants of up to $30,000 per phase annually, with additional support from the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development. To be eligible for consideration, companies must have been awarded a Federal SBIR/STTR Program Phase I award and submit a Stage 1 application to the Department within 180 days of the effective start date of the Phase I award.
