Purpose of Initiative
The West Virginia Small Business Development Center (WVSBDC) Research and Commercialization Assistance grant program was established to stimulate improved SBIR/STTR competition results.
Eligibility
The applicant must have previously received an SBIR/STTR Phase I on the topic proposed, must be based in West Virginia at the time of application submission, and the company must meet all eligibility requirements of the specific federal agency for whom a Phase II application is being prepared. Further, the applicant must submit evidence that they are in good standing with the WV Tax Department and the WV Secretary of State’s Office. Only one grant will be given to help develop any specific Phase II proposal. A West Virginia-based business may only receive two separate awards under this program in any one calendar year.

Award Details
Eligible applicants can request up to $30,000 to defray costs incurred during the development of a SBIR/STTR Phase II proposal for submission to a federal agency. Allowable uses for program funds include direct costs such as gathering information through literature searches, patent searches, market research, commercialization plans, and more; registration fees not including travel costs for SBIR proposal writing workshops or conferences; external technical consultant, technical writer or proposal reviewer fees; travel to develop partnerships for the proposal; costs associated with further technology development; and printing and supply funds.

Purpose of Initiative
Accelerate Forward, funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, supports entrepreneurs, businesses, and economic development in West Virginia. The program stimulates entrepreneurship by providing early stage funding for product development. Requested support includes computer-aided design, fabrication, machining, reverse engineering, prototyping, 3D printing, quality, training, marketing and other.
Eligibility
If an applicant is entrepreneurial, innovative, and interested in taking advantage of manufacturing technology, then this opportunity may be of interest.
Application Process
Once an applicant has submitted the completed the application, an RCBI representative will contact them within two business days.
Award Details
Award amounts between $1,000 and $10,000 are given based on project specifications. The first 5% of the amount awarded for project funding must be paid before work begins and is non-refundable.
